Last week came the news that a possible habitable plant has been found. The planet is Proxima b. This rocky planet is found orbiting the star Proxima Centauri, which is the closest star to our sun. This makes this exoplanet the closest to us. An exoplanet is any planet outside our solar system.
According to researchers, the Proxima b is 1.3 bigger than Earth and it is found in the “temperate” zone in relation to its distance to its star. This means that it is not too hot or too cold. This also means that there could be liquid water on its surface. Liquid water is essential to life.
The next thing that the astronomers want to check is the presence of an atmosphere. If there is an atmosphere then the probability of having and supporting life increases. Despite the many life essential factors that have yet to be confirmed, researchers are already excited since it is close to us. This means that they can send a probe to study it further. If Proxima b is found habitable then it can support human life.
I am excited to know about this however, I am more excited thinking of heaven. If you believe in God and His Word, heaven is real. It is the promised home of God’s people (2 Pet. 3:13) and we will live there forever (2 Cor. 5:1) because it is where God is (1 Kin. 8:30; Mat. 6:9) and reigns (Psa. 2:4; Isa. 63:150. Since it is our home, Jesus is already preparing a place for each one there (Joh. 14:2-4). It is the place of indescribable beauty (Rev. 21:10-21) and purity (Rev. 21:27). As to relationships, it is the place of harmony and unity (Isa. 65:25).
Astronomers are excited about the possibility of living in Proxima b when there are still uncertainties. About heaven we should be all the more excited for it is real. Because heaven is real, we should sacrifice everything for heaven (Mat. 13:44-46). We should long for it (2 Cor. 5:2). We also eagerly wait for it (2 Pet. 3:14). And then we should hope for it (Col. 1:5).
