Christmas Is a Time of Giving

We associate Christmas with gift giving.  In school, children are expected to have exchanging gifts as part of their Christmas party.  Sometimes, we thing of the less fortunate brethren and give them something like what we did in our Inner City Ministry and in our Cogon-Pardo Outreach.

As far as the Bible is concern, there are two bases for this practice. The first one is the magi who brought gifts to baby Jesus (Mat 2:1-11).  They gave gold, frankincense and myrrh.  They gave the best gift that they could offer.  The second one, I believe, is the best basis for gift giving.  In John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (NIV).  God the Father gave us the best gift that He could ever give us – His One and Only Son.  Through His Son Jesus we can have eternal life.

As we think of Christmas, we think more of what we can receive from others and from God.  But have you not thought of what you can give to Jesus.  What gift can you give to Jesus this Christmas?  Do you know that the best gift that you can give him is yourself?  Rom 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship” (NIV).
